We have an excellent opportunity for an Advice & Information Officer to lead the way to a better quality of life for everyone affected by severe mental illness by providing advice by phone, email and webchat. The post holder will also work to produce information on a wide range of mental-health related issues including treatment and care, the Mental Health Act, the Equality Act, the Care Act, medication, welfare benefits, and carers’ rights. You will enable people affected by mental illness to be more able to solve their problems through:

  • A better understanding of their situation
  • A better knowledge of their rights
  • Increased knowledge of the support available


Our Advice and Information Service
provides advice and information aimed at enabling people affected by mental illness to have an improved quality of life. This includes people living with a mental illness, their carers, friends and relatives as well as mental health professionals and employers. In the longer term we aim for our service to have a positive impact on the well-being of the people who use it. We also use knowledge gained from advice work to improve mental health policies and practices which impact on the lives of people affected by mental illness.

What we are looking for:

  • experience of working in a role providing holistic advice
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to explain complicated processes in a calm, concise, logical style both verbally and in writing.


You may also have:

  • experience of working with people with mental illness in order to understand the complex issues involved for service users and families living with severe mental illness. This could be gained via paid work, volunteering or personal experience.
  • experience of writing or reviewing information resources in Plain English.
