Job Title: Director of Finance
Job Classification: Salary - Exempt
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Work Schedule: 40 hours; Monday-Friday (Up to 50% remote work optional, 50% in office)
Primary Responsibilities:
The Director of Finance is responsible for the overall accounting and financial administration of the Center and provides accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis for the CEO to best understand the overall health of the organization and drive strategic decisions. Will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the accounting operations, ensures that legal and audit requirements are met, and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Accounting or Finance Degree at the Bachelor’s level or higher
- 5+ years of general accounting experience with progressive responsibilities in a Small-Midsize company
- Excellent working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, cost principles, audit requirements, and IRS requirements for non-profit organizations
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be proficient in the English language
Essential Job Functions:
- Performs general accrual accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Prepares financial statements and forms for the organization.
- Maintains the general ledger.
- Oversees accounts payable and receivable.
- Prepares annual budgets for the Center.
- Completes monthly bank reconciliation and confirms accounts.
- Conducts monthly and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepares and files tax reports.
- Oversees financial records and contract maintenance.
- Advises and assists the CEO on Center and Foundation budget and financial matters.
- Assists and collaborates with the independent financial auditor.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of leadership and staff and outside of the organization
- Other duties as reasonably assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provides administrative supervision for the Finance Team and direct oversight and leadership to the general accounting functions for the Center.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to read computer screens, mail, and talk on the phone
- Ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds
Work Environment:
- Flexible work schedule up to 50% remote (optional)
- Office time in Hiawatha Main Office required
- Professional and deadline-oriented office setting environment
- Interactive with other staff members
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
