Job Summary
Under general supervision the Facility Technician III is responsible for maintaining the physical facility and all state-owned equipment housed at SCE downtown location within the 6th and 7ths floors of the John Plankinton Building including, but not limited to over 75 offices, 17 conference rooms, seven pairs of restrooms and five mechanical rooms. The Facility Technician III must understand the relationship between a properly maintained physical environment/equipment and faculty-staff-student needs including safety, productivity, learning, and comfort. The Facility Technician III is expected to carry out all of the duties of this position independently with minimal supervision. The hours of this position are 6:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday, however, on occasion, this position may require evening and weekend hours and in the event of a building emergency as the first point of contact.

Job Duties
  • Inspect, maintain, and provide repairs at the facility using basic and specialized equipment to ensure property meets and maintains established standards. Assists with construction, and operational maintenance as needed
  • Perform all requested maintenance functions, including maintenance and repair for plumbing equipment, electrical switches and appliances, heating, and ventilation units, and building equipment and fixtures
  • Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
  • Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries to appropriate entities
  • Maintain the security of the facility and its equipment, supplies, and personal contents through the responsible management of the keys and facility access
  • As necessary, contract with outside service providers to perform maintenance outside scope of responsibilities and/or abilities
  • Assist trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed
  • As necessary, partner with campus facilities staff to ensure adherence to university policies and standards
  • In the event of an emergency, take appropriate steps to mitigate emergency situation as the primary point of contact, including possibility of returning to the facility after hours or on weekends

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT AND PAY RATE: This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position. University staff are paid hourly on a bi-weekly basis. The initial hiring range is $27.30 to $31.25. Individual candidates’ experience, education and qualifications will determine the appropriate starting rate at the time of hire. Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years facilities experience including inspection, maintenance and/or repair of building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
  • Experience with common software and applications (e.g., MS Office Suite, email, etc.)
  • Proficient and trained in proper safety methods for use and maintenance of power equipment and tools commonly used in building repair and remodeling (i.e., drills, rotor hammers, sanders, saws, etc.)
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs
  • Availability to work on weekends or after business hours as necessary
  • A valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior responsibility for maintaining a small to mid-sized facility
  • Specific software, Shop UW Plus, Project Management software, and/or other purchasing/bid software
  • Experience with HVAC systems
  • Construction or facility trades experience
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend blueprints for building maintenance and construction
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and State of Wisconsin safety regulations
  • Related certification(s) or coursework in Facilities management and/or Engineering, HVAC or similar
