Job description

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to utilize HVLP painting equipment satisfactorily. MUST HAVE INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE, NO RESIDENTIAL HOUSE PAINTERS, PLEASE. The requirements listed below are the least MINIMUM roles, qualifications, and skills representative to perform the job as required:

  • Knowledge of HVLP paint guns, repairs and all spray application equipment and paint booth equipment.
  • Set-up paint gun, familiarity with a cup gun and/or a pressure pot.
  • Obtain complete coverage free from blemishes.
  • Flush out hose lines daily or before each change of color.
  • Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition; Maintain good housekeeping practices in accordance with company practice.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Apply primer, base, and clear onto sheet metal assemblies per manufacturing needs
  • Sand, grind, and prepare welded assemblies as required
  • Masking areas that are not included to be painted
  • Must have good communication skills in order to communicate with supervision to meet production assembly needs
  • Rework finished products as required prior to delivery in order to meet quality standards
  • Work with other painters to assist in the completion of complex projects
  • Inspect and correct paint defects as necessary to meet product specifications
  • Cross-train and perform the work of other job tasks in addition to the primary assigned position.
  • Inspect and clean paint equipment to maintain functionality
  • If any equipment needs repairs notify supervisor/lead or maintenance department
  • Overtime as needed

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Since the painter position is entry-level, a HS Diploma or GED is the only educational prerequisite
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience spray painting with HVLP equipment
  • Knowledge in application of primer, base, and clear coats
  • Knowledge and ability to spray balanced color
  • Knowledge and ability to use spray materials
  • Knowledge in sanding, and sheet metal preparation
  • Must successfully pass a paint test
  • Operate forklifts when required, after proper training and certification
  • Maintain housekeeping in designated sections of warehouse
  • Ensure a safe working environment by conforming to all safety guidelines including, but not limited to, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Demonstrate willingness to work with others in a team environment
  • Positive, willingness to learn and participate in a changing environment to reach a common goal
  • Works to continuously improve fabrication times while maintaining desired levels of quality
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or instructed

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment requiring awkward stances and positions such as bending, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching for periods of time throughout an 8 to 10 hour day
  • Ability to stand and walk for majority of 8 to 10 hour day, bend, lift and carry paint gun and pull paint hose
  • Must successfully pass OSHA required Fit Test (1910.134) prior and wear respirator for periods of time throughout an 8 to 10 hour day
  • Ability work well under pressure. He or she must be able to understand and adhere to oral and written instructions. Safety and attendance are number one priority
  • Highly organized with the desire to continually improve
  • Strong attention to detail
