An exciting opportunity has opened up to join the Department of Health Science, Meditech and Technology as an Ophthalmics Lecturer. The Ophthalmics Lecturer will be an integral part of the team with a real passion for teaching where you will lead, teach and assist in the development of courses.


Responsibilities include:

  • Focus on raising aspirations and encouraging students in the realisation of their ambitions, ensuring they have the skills necessary to either progress in Higher Education or enter employment.
  • To teach on courses specified by the Head of Department/Head of School
  • To participate in open events, professional body/regulatory body and stakeholder meetings as appropriate.
  • To participate in the development of curriculum and, where appropriate, in cross College curriculum development

Education & Training


  • Educated to degree level or appropriate professional standard
  • GCSE 5 – 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in Maths or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • GCSE 5 - 9 or equivalent level 2 qualification in English or be prepared to pass a test prior to interview to demonstrate level 2 ability and then if appointed achieve within an agreed timescale
  • A recognised teaching qualification, working towards one or the commitment to complete one within a specified time period
  • Registered with the General Optical Council (GoC)

Experience


  • A professional registered with the General Optical Council (GoC)
  • Academic, professional or commercial experience in an area relevant to the programmes
  • Ability to utilise Information Technology and Information, Learning and Technology both within learning and for administrative purposes
  • Experience of delivering HE including assessment with awarding organisations would be desirable but not essential
  • Proven experience and evidence of successful teaching would be desirable but, again, not essential.
