Position Summary

As a staff level position, the Safety & PSM Coordinator will ensure that Environmental and OSHA standards are met at a local, state and federal level. The Safety & PSM Coordinator will coordinate the Process Safety Management (PSM) program for the Anhydrous Ammonia system, leading assigned safety committee, safety meetings, workplace hazard assessments and update safety communications and postings..

Job Functions

  • Research and be familiar with regulatory requirements for preventing the consequences of a catastrophic release of Ammonia; maintain PSM compliance manuals; accountable to provide oversight to ensure the fourteen (14) element PSM program is compliant with all applicable OSHA and EPA standards; coordinate and actively participate in PSM related plant meetings. Learn and apply maintenance skills (clean-hands) including Inspecting valves and tagged pipes, verifying equipment is labeled correctly, and following OSHA & EPA laws and regulations.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, safety inspections and compliance audits to measure compliance.
  • Implement safety policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations; develop and coordinate Safety Awareness modules and programs to engage the workforce and enhance the awareness level to risks and safe behaviors.
  • Create and deliver training programs; monitor and track trainings completion and effectiveness in implementation including OSHA training
  • Conduct and oversee the entire process of accident investigation/analysis.
  • Serve as the liaison with local, state and federal safety agencies
  • Analyze trends through root cause analysis to identify causation and risk factors; identify and recommend corrective and/or preventative action measures.
  • Ensure record keeping is in compliance for Injury logs
  • Depending on location: partner with the insurance carrier to ensure proper medical treatment (i.e. light duty) for workers compensation program including agency and insurance carrier reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years’ safety experience

License/Certifications

N/A

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a closely related field with related experience
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITITES (KSA’s)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish required based on location
  • Ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Proven organization skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects to meet various deadlines in a fast-paced environment while presenting a professional demeanor
  • Proficient with Microsoft office, including skills with Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to work in an office and plant environment with exposure to noise, equipment and machinery
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, present complex ideas concisely and clearly articulate ideas verbally and in writing

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Able to travel up to 20% of the time

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.
  • Depending on assigned area Usual plant environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
