Site Production Manager
Purpose of the Job
Alstom is dedicated to the successful and safe delivery of its contractual commitments and to the achievement of its business plan. This post shall be pivotal in achieving this.
The post objectives will be to ensure that production targets, quality standards and safety requirements are achieved through the execution of the production plan and through the efficient management of resources. Ensure that trains are delivered on time in a safe, clean and fully functional condition to our customers.
Objective
To manage the Customer Service team for Parts & CRO. Oversee and monitor all Customer Service activities such as, but not limited to: Inquiries, RFQs, Quotations, Sales Orders, Repairs, Invoices and Cash collections.
To set priorities to the rest of stakeholders of the Organization linked to Parts Sales. (Procurement, Planning, Quality, Engineering, Warehouse, Sales) and make sure we are all aligned in reaching same objectives.
To support the Customer Services officers and serve as escalation point to issues affecting the department.
Accountabilities
- Minimize depot-operating costs and maximize depot-operating efficiencies through effective depot resource planning and controlling of production overtime, while ensuring delivery of product – all customers.
- Actively promote 5S, Lean maintenance philosophies and methodologies;

Responsibilities
- Managing the Production Teams
- Monitoring and controlling Production on a shift-by-shift basis.
- Ensuring that accountability for production is clearly defined and delegated.
- Identifying people requirements for budgeted fixed workload ensuring flexibility and high levels of productivity are achieved.
- Managing organisational change in order to optimise working practices and thus ensure a productive workforce.
- Ensuring all Production meets the Safety and Quality requirements of internal standards, customer specifications and Rail standards.
- Monitoring working practices and environment to ensure that people and facilities meet the mandatory and/or statutory requirements.
- Identifying training and other resource needs to facilitate production in the most effective way.
- Ensure work is performed in a safe, effective manner and in accordance with the H&S at Work Act, Rules and Regulations, Railway Group Standards and Alstom Policies and Procedures.
- Review work plans with Production Controllers to ensure daily production targets are met as effectively and efficiently as possible.
- Maintain good industrial relations within area of responsibility, implementing disciplinary procedures for any serious staff irregularities - maintain a well-disciplined work force.
- Proactive in identifying areas for improvement by personal check, analysis of trains incident reports and complaints, initiating action to ensure improvements.
- Ensure that where applicable, documented Quality procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure that job times are controlled, issued and updated as necessary.
- Plan and control leave entitlement for Production Team Members within set guidelines in order to meet the Business Plan.
- Encourage continual professional development for staff within your areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for managing and prioritising the workload of each team in line with the Traincare Centre requirements:
Isolations;
- Validation of Service Orders completed by team members;
- Reporting and maintaining progress of work;
- Quality including the completion of In-Process and Final Inspections, and adherence with Local Quality System;
- Safety adherence to Local Arrangements, e.g. Network Rail Rules and Regulations, Railway Group Standards, H&SAW, West Coast Traincare Safety Programme;
- Team Member Annual leave authorisations;
- Team Member Training needs;
- Discipline and Managing for attendance 1st line;
- Team rosters and manning levels;
- Time and attendance.
General Safety Responsibilities
Safety must always be a prime consideration of every person and you are required to ensure that product safety, the safety of people and the environment is never compromised.
To ensure compliance with the general elements of the Alstom Transport safety responsibility statements you will:
- Comply with any control measures that are implemented as a result of any Risk Assessment.
- Participate as required in the risk assessment process.
- Promptly report to your supervisor/manager all accidents, incidents, product safety issues and work related ill health or near misses that you witness or are involved with.
- Ensure that you are fully aware of the fire precautions and evacuation procedures for any building you are working in or visiting.
- Ensuring that all personal protective equipment issued is correctly worn and maintained.
- Assist in safety investigations and closeout any actions / recommendations assigned to you.
- Carrying out any product safety work to the defined standards and to the defined methods. Advising your Supervisor / Manager if the work allocated is beyond your competence.
- Report any non-conformance against specification /process requirements.
- Ensure that all specified work records are adequately completed and maintained.
Environmental Responsibilities.
- Comply with environmental legislation with a view to reducing harmful environmental impacts.
- Ensure that all spillages are dealt with in accordance with the Spill Control Procedure.
- The use of substances is to be in accordance with the manufacturers safety data sheets.
- All waste materials are to be managed in accordance with applicable legislation and the Traincare Centre Waste Disposal procedures.
- Identification of environmental aspects and impacts.
- Ensure implementation of Traincare Centre environmental procedures.
- Undertake inspections of the workplace identifying safety and environmental deficiencies and ensure all actions raised are progressed to a satisfactory closure (as far as is reasonably practicable).
- Ensure that control measures identified through risk and impact assessment, are implemented and maintained.
Requirements:
- Minimum of a Four year University Degree - Preferably Engineering and MBA
- IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, e-mail, Internet.
- Good communication, verbal and written, report writing and organisational skills.
- Experienced in fleet and/or maintenance operations and planning workloads effectively.
- Technical knowledge of relevant Traction and Rolling Stock.
- Knowledge and understanding of Network Rail Rules and Regulations.
- An understanding of SAP/GSI and ability to use MS Office packages.
- Knowledge of Rail industry IT systems, Ravers, Trust and Gemini.
- Man management experience of large groups of staff 10+
- Responsibility for 100-300 employees
- Experience of maintenance management in the railway industry
- Understanding of Railway Depot and Railway Industry Operations preferable.
