Responsibilities:
The nurse will be expected to develop therapeutic relationships where possible with clients and their carers, working intensively with complex levels of need. This is to achieve the expected outcomes highlighted in the national document, ‘Statutory Guidance on Promoting the Health and Well-being of Looked After children’ (2015).
This is a demanding role, requiring high levels of professional skills to work with a wide range of children and young people, with regard to age and abilities and also with a wide ranging carer support network.
The nurse should have sufficient relevant child related health experience, be suitably qualified, acknowledge the necessity of keeping abreast of new and current practice improvements and have a high level of safeguarding knowledge to ensure the needs of vulnerable children are identified and met.
To identify and engage with eligible Children Looked After (CLA) and Care Leavers (CL).- To be able to work with a range of professionals and carers to achieve positive outcomes for CLA & CL.
- Through continuous monitoring and engagement in reflective supervision & practice, ensure that expertise in clinical methods are developed and maintained.
- To ensure that the service offered is of the highest quality and that any health issues recorded in the Health Recommendation Plans (HRP) are actioned fully, to promote positive health outcomes.
- To use appropriate materials and methods in a variety of settings to achieve the following:
- Improve the health outcomes and life chances of CLA & CL
- Improve health and development by enabling carers to provide sensitive and competent care for CLA & CL
- To work in collaboration with local statutory and universal services to ensure that carers become confident in accessing a range of health services to meet the needs of the CLA & CL in their care.
- To work in collaboration with the Local Authority (LA), to support their statutory duty as corporate parents to meet the health needs of CLA &CL.
