About us
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is the UK’s independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. It is our goal to increase the public’s trust and confidence in how their data is used and made available. By staying up to date with evolving technology, we’re able to enforce the laws that we’ve helped shape whilst also providing an excellent public service. Our work is interesting and immensely rewarding – it’s of national importance and increasingly in the public eye. As a result, more people than ever before are turning to us for help. As such, we’re growing and looking to add to our teams in many areas!
About the role
Our Business Services department provides a range of services for organisations. These include front-line advice giving on our live services, as well as assessing data breaches, managing our fees processes and developing products to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) comply with their information rights obligations. Our work is varied and fast paced, as we strive to provide first class services that stay relevant to the needs and expectations of our customers. Team Managers directly manage a team of staff who split their time between front-line and back-office functions, including providing advice on live service channels, assessing written reports, and using what they learn from customers to help develop resources for SMEs. Team Managers are responsible for ensuring that their team’s work is completed to a consistently high standard and that processes and procedures are effective and followed. They must ensure staff are supported to manage their wellbeing and to fulfil their personal potential. They will also support our Group Managers in developing and improving our services. And as our live service hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, there are no weekend or late-night shifts to cover.
Part time applicants are welcome to apply and will be considered. Please state the working pattern you require when submitting your application.
About you
You’ll have a strong ability to lead people to deliver expected outcomes. You will be able to analyse trends, using management information to understand the performance of your team and identify opportunities for improvement. You must also be able to deal with all aspects of management including probation, performance and attendance management and will have good judgement and the confidence to make important decisions about your staff. You will be committed to providing first class customer service, putting the need to create great experiences for our customers at the heart of your team’s activities and motivating your team to do the same. You’ll need to be flexible and have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with others, sharing resources across our services to help us achieve all our departmental aims and objectives. You will also be keen to learn, with the ability to analyse legislation and apply it to particular cases. You don’t need to know information rights law when you join us, as we’ll give you in-depth training to get you started. But you do need to have experience that shows you are capable of understanding and explaining complex rules, concepts, guidelines or similar.
