Job Summary:

SPAY4LA operates two mobile spay and neuter clinics that provide low cost or free services to residents of the City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles. We are seeking a Veterinarian to perform 30-40 (cats/dogs) surgeries per day. This position works +/- 8 hours per day with a talented and supportive team consisting of one Registered Veterinary Technician, two veterinary assistants, and one driver/tech assist. You’ll provide high quality/volume sterilizations and post-operative care. The Spay/Neuter Surgeon performs physical examinations on all patients to ensure their candidacy for surgery and safe recovery. Patients include owned pets belonging to low-income residents of the Los Angeles area and adoptable cats and dogs.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-surgical physical examinations on all surgical candidates to determine if animals are acceptable anesthetic/surgical candidates.
  • Document physical examination findings and any adverse events on appropriate medical records.
  • Perform an average of 30-40 high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgical procedures per day. Oversee all other aspects of veterinary care on clinic days, including pre- and post-op care, anesthetic administration and monitoring, emergency care, restraint and treatment.
  • Maintain medical standards of care as set forth by SPAY4LA
  • Direct and evaluate performance of Registered Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants as pertains to medical protocols and patient care. Provide feedback to Clinic Manager.
  • Examine, diagnose and treat post-surgical medical complications of animals spayed/neutered at the mobile clinic.
  • Adhere to all protocols mandated by OSHA, DEA and CVMB.

Education and Experience:

  • Background in small animal medicine.
  • 2 years of experience employed as a Veterinarian is preferred.

Certificate, Licenses, Registrations

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent.
  • Current California State Veterinary License, or eligible
