Role Purpose & Key Responsibilities

To work as part of the Youth Offending Service (YOS), responsible for the development and delivery of effective and innovative interventions and reparation projects to prevent and reduce offending by children and young people.

  • To identify, develop and deliver effective, evidence-based, and accredited interventions and reparation activities in both a group setting and on a 1:1 basis
  • To meaningfully engage young people and by means of assessment in cooperation with the YOS officer, ensure they are matched to the appropriate intervention and reparation activity
  • To monitor and record the progress of each young person, providing feedback to the YOS officer and accrediting body in line with relevant procedures
  • To source and support community-based opportunities for young people to undertake reparation and intervention work

Requirements

  • Ability to work weekends and travel around the Borough to support young people in off-site projects
  • Substantial experience and solid track record of positively engaging young people in a youth justice setting
  • Knowledge or practical experience of delivery of effective groupwork programmes for young people who offend
  • Knowledge or practical experience of restorative approaches, trauma informed practice and Child First principles
  • An understanding of the issues and challenges that young people face through adolescence
  • Knowledge of diverse, multi-cultural communities and their lived experience and need
  • Knowledge of the Youth Justice System and developments in the field
  • Ability to undertake assessments and identify risks and needs of young people to be able to assess and formulate possible interventions and reparation activities.
  • Skills in engaging young people and families, and ability to apply different engagement methods.
  • Ability to work in partnership with YOS case managers and other professionals to support effective intervention plans to manage risk of harm.
