The SUCCESS Fund is a state-supported equity-driven initiative to improve outcomes for the colleges’ most underserved populations. Under the supervision of the Director of ALANA Men in Motion, the Learning Coach will help students examine academic concerns and perceived barriers to success; provide academic coaching that supports skill development, such as time management, organization, test-taking strategies, etc. This position will provide individual semester-long support, assessing students’ strengths and needs; working with students to develop strategies to persist with their coursework.

  • Work one-on-one or in a group setting in the capacity of a Learning Coach to assist students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming barriers to academic success. Design and implement academic support plans for students based on assessed strengths and needs.
  • Responds to faculty intervention requests received via academic progress reports.
  • Administer and use learning style inventories to plan a course of action for students seeking help.
  • Maintain appropriate records and data of student caseload using innovative platforms such as EAB Navigate and Google Suite.
  • Monitor students' progress with check-ins, scheduled meetings, proactive outreach and communication, and respond to students' questions, concerns, and needs.
  • Develop, facilitate and deliver workshops on various college success topics such as time management, study strategies, goal setting, learning styles, career planning, and communication skills.
  • Perform outreach to campus partners to present information and materials for student recruitment: oversee student application and department interest form.
  • Practice positive regard/decorum while providing critical feedback in a constructive manner that allows for student learning.
  • Assist with the coordination/planning of community-building activities, leadership, and professional development events for students (i.e.: Leadership Speaker Series, Cultural Enrichment Trips, Trainings, Workshops, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Counseling, Human Development, Psychology, Education, Social Work, or a related discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in professional academic coaching, advising, or counseling;
  • Problem-solving and professional communication skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in student development strategies and high-impact practices;
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of a twenty-first-century comprehensive community college;
  • Organized and able to manage event planning and student caseload simultaneously;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency such as faculty, staff, and student body;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite products;
  • Project management/event planning skills.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Full-time, MCCC Unit Position (MCCC Title: Senior Special Programs Coordinator)


Salary:
Grade 5- Minimum $59,224-$66,252/year. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits package.
Hours: 37.5 hrs.
Funding Source: Success Funds
