We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals and become part of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems in Buffalo, New York; an organization focused on the development and production of state-of-the-art Simulation Systems solutions.
The Manufacturing Engineer designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling in an electronics manufacturing environment. Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
Specific job functions include:
Process Development:
Developing, improving, and maintaining manufacturing processes, with a focus on production capabilities, quality, and schedules.
Monitoring process yields and cost to drive improved metrics.
Developing and optimizing automated equipment process parameters.
Creating and managing project plans (tasks, resources, and schedules) for process development activities.
Developing/revising process documentation and work instructions.
Production Support:
Solving manufacturing problems (related to materials, designs, equipment and tooling, training and instructions) to support production.
Disposition of non-conforming materials, and provide direction for rework and repair processes.
Creating and documenting designs for custom tooling and fixtures.
Equipment Support:
Specifying, identifying and procuring new manufacturing equipment for production readiness and preparing equipment for production.
Responsible for equipment maintenance, service schedules, and spare parts.
Design and Engineering Support:
Recommending product design improvements required to produce advanced microelectronics products
Participate in design manufacturability reviews for new products.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, electrical engineering or equivalent STEM degree plus 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or electrical engineering plus 0 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of mechanical and electronic manufacturing/production processes.
Ability to interpret 2D drawings and 3D models.
Experience with automated microelectronics and/or SMT manufacturing processes and equipment.
U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated Project Management experience.
Demonstrated business acumen including schedule and budget management.
Ability to operate machine shop equipment including precision milling and sheet metal fabrication for tooling, fixtures, and metal modifications.
Familiarity with equipment, materials, and processes for manufacturing precision wound coils used in Military applications.
Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Familiarity with Solidworks and Autocad 2D and 3D software.
Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures.
