Job Summary:

Assisting the provider with back office duties in the outpatient management of patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Checking schedules and organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room.
  • Assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, and dressing.
  • Performing screenings per provider instruction, collecting specimens
  • Assisting the medical providers/nurses in exams and with various procedures.
  • Administering prescribed injectable medications in compliance with the Washington State Department of Health WACs and documented competency.
  • Coordinating medication refills per physician’s instructions.
  • Documenting patient encounter, completed tasks, patient data, and all other information required by regulatory agencies.
  • Relaying instructions or information to patients/families.
  • Answering calls and providing pertinent information (clinical information as directed by the provider).
  • Performing other clinical related duties within the scope defined in the WACs.
  • Sending/receiving patient medical records.
  • Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Schedules referral appointments and explains instructions to patients.
  • Preparing information/consent forms for patient as needed.
  • Ensuring complete information in the medical record.
  • Anticipating and preparing equipment/instruments and room as needed for the encounter.
  • Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patients to maintain infection control.
  • Cleaning sterilizer according to schedules maintenance program.
  • Keeping appropriate records, ordering, sorting, storing supplies and restocking
  • exam/procedure rooms.
  • Respecting/promoting patient rights.
  • Responding appropriately to emergency codes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. This position sometimes requires travel.

Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program. Must have current certification in CPR.

Certificates and Licenses:
Certification by an approved state or national examination agency

Language Skills:

Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and emails; Write simple correspondence; Effectively present information in one-on-one situation and small group situations to customers, and other employees.

Math Skills:
Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to identify problems and escalate them.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software and previous utilization of one of the various Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Experiencewith EPIC is a plus.

  • To perform the job, the employee is required to have full range of body motion including handling patients. Required to stand and walk for long periods of time. Required to have the ability to bend and squat. Required to have eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer, telephone, copier, fax machine, EKG machine and defibrillator.
  • The incumbent will carry equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. The incumbent is required to read and respond to documents in hard copy and electronic form.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.06 - $26.89 per hour
