This position is eligible for paid shift differentials!
Employees working evening hours (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. shift) will receive $1.55 per hour over their regular rate of pay, and employees working night hours (11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. shift) will receive an additional two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) per hour over their regular rate of pay.
All staff members at Yakima Valley Memorial must be in compliance with our Vaccination Policy, which includes the COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine, by their first day of employment.
Actual pay rate will be calculated based on relevant years of experience and education/certification requirements.
ROLE SUMMARY
With continual and direct patient contact, the Patient Access Representative performs diversified tasks and duties associated with inpatient admissions, emergency and outpatient registrations, cashiering and communications. Discusses financial responsibility with patients, maintains accurate patient account information, verifies insurance and provides excellent service to all contacts.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Admit/register patients in a timely and efficient manner using multiple methods of communications (bedside, in-person, over the phone, etc.) Obtain all required admission/registration information and ensures an accurate medical record is created. Promote accurate billing information and dissuades fraudulent use of insurance.
- Demonstrates exceptional customer service and interacts effectively with all patients, customers, and members of the health care team providing knowledgeable and professional communication.
- Consistently complies with state and federal regulations; obtain appropriate signatures, completes all required forms, and provide patient information as required. Communicates with third parties to coordinate hospital services.
- Executes the pre-registration and pre-authorization process by obtaining necessary demographics and information from the patient, patient’s physician, and insurance company including payer specific documents required for billing
- Performs and obtains payer financial coverage verification, authorization, pre-certification, notification, service approvals and utilization requirements; ascertains accurate and timely payer determination and financial classification.
- Collects co-pay, deductibles, deposits and payments due and/or arranges for payment plans with each patient. Reviews and discusses all patient financial responsibility at the appropriate time in the admission/registration process.
- Communicates and coordinates with all departments, medical offices, healthcare facilities and all other entities for patient services and information.
- Complete forms, applications and documents accurately and in a timely manner.
- Actively attends department staff meetings and required educational opportunities
- Meets QA benchmarks; completes daily work list, self corrects errors, participates in audits and performance improvement projects.
- May cross-train in other areas within the department when necessary as well as perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Experience: Hospital patient access or billing, medical office receptionist, insurance office experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: CPAT or CHAA preferred.
Level of Business Knowledge/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Medical terminology/Clerical/excellent Customer Service required. Knowledge of Government Programs, insurance, and healthcare compliance preferred

- Physical requirements for this position include: hearing, seeing, speaking, feeling, reaching, pinching, and repetitive motions.
- This position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time. Walking is required routinely.
- This position requires exerting up to 40 pounds of force in order to lift, carry, pull, or move objects.
